Who is Steve Pumphrey?
Hey there, I’m Steve Pumphrey, a Fitness Coach in Upstate South Carolina. I help People develop fitness programs they can follow for a lifetime. No gimmicks. No quick fixes. No fad diets. No crazy workouts. I focus on tried-and-true methods, develop sensible workouts, expect you to eat real food and start with small changes that will have big results. You know, things that will improve your fitness and you can do for the rest of your life. Fitness. Simplified. I have certifications and training in nutrition, strength training, online coaching, exercise recovery, biomechanics, exercise programming.
Who are you?
You’re a “normal” person who’s looking to improve their fitness – lose a few pounds of fat, add a few pounds of muscle. In general, you want to look and feel better. You’re not trying to win a bodybuilding contest, but you do want people to say, “Wow, you’re looking good!” You also want to feel good about your body, wear clothes that look good on you, maybe update your wardrobe with clothes that fit you better. Speaking of better, maybe a better night’s sleep, feeling rested and refreshed when you wake is on your wish list. Or maybe walking up a flight of stairs without getting winded. How about being able to put your shoes on without feeling like you’re going to pull a muscle. Maybe your Dr. has said you need to make some changes.
What’s the best way?
Have you ever watched a baby start to walk? They don’t just hop up one day and start walking. No, there’s a gradual progression – rolling over, pulling themselves up, holding on, standing on their own, that first step. Then they stumble, fall, and get frustrated. When this happens, an adult helps them, shows them what to do, gives them pointers, guides them until they can walk on their own. Once they’ve mastered walking, they don’t need to re-learn it, it’s part of who they are. The same is true for fitness. Once we figure out your fitness program and you learn how to follow it, it will become a learned behavior, part of who you are and will last you a lifetime.
How do we do this?
All the fitness programs I develop focus on what I call the Seven Pillars of Health:
• Sleep
• Hydration
• Nutrition
• Strength Training
• Cardio Conditioning
• Flexibility
• Daily Movement
Pillars support a structure. Sure, you can remove one or two and the building won’t collapse, but it’s much stronger and more reliable with all of them in place.
Where do we do this?
There are two options for this – online and hybrid. Online is available to anyone in the US. We “meet” using Zoom and communicate daily through my app and texting. There are video demonstrations of how to perform the strength training exercises for you in my app and tasks to help you with the other pillars.
If you live near me, hybrid coaching may be an option. With hybrid coaching we meet in person at my personal gym. I will show you how to perform the exercises on the equipment I have in my gym. It’s commercial equipment like what you will find in other local gyms. You’ll have video demonstrations in the app to use as reminders when you go to your gym of choice to do your strength training workouts.
Why should I choose you to be my coach?
Honestly, you don’t have to choose me, but I highly recommend you find a credentialed professional to help you. If you have a problem with the electric or plumbing in your house, you’re probably better served by calling a professional for help. Sure, you can Goggle and watch YouTube videos, but why not hire someone who knows how to solve the problem? Someone who will minimize the risk of you hurting yourself and spending hours, days, or weeks figuring it out on your own, not to mention the cost. I have certifications in nutrition, strength training, exercise recovery and online fitness coaching. I also stay up to date with the latest fitness information, the good and the bad. It’s my job. It’s what I do.
When can I get started?
As soon as you like. Here's my Fitness Inquiry questionnaire to get you started. Once I get your inquiry, I'll schedule a Zoom call with you to talk about your fitness - where you are and where you’d like to be. Then we can decide if we’re a good fit to work together.
