About Us


Friends of Jocassee, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) volunteer organization formed in 2012 with the Mission of :

“Conservation of the Jocassee Gorges for All.”  


We rely on supporters like you to continue our work to Volunteer, Improve and Preserve the unique character of Lake Jocassee and the surrounding area. Become a FOJ - VIP today! Join us in our many Events, Projects and Educational Oportunities by becoming a member, donating to our cause, and spreading our message. These are some of our on going happenings.

  • We render assistance and projects to several local state parks, including Devils Fork State Park and Keowee Toxaway State Park, both in the Jocassee Gorges region.

  • Provide grants and scholarships for outdoor educational purposes regarding the Jocassee Gorges area.

  • Hold events throughout the year that introduce people to this beautiful area of South Carolina, including:

    • BellFest - A spring celebration of the rare Oconee Bell flower, with Oconee Bell trail walks, live music, kid & family activities, food, local artists & authors, and local vendors.

    • Paddle Splash - A fall Southeast Paddle Sports Series of races for kayaks, canoes, paddleboards and other self-powered crafts.

    • Spring and fall fishing tournaments.

    • Volunteer, Improve and Protect (VIP) Day - Our annual collaborative litter pickup day at Devils Fork State Park involving divers, hikers, and boaters.  Litter is collected from the park and Lake Jocassee.

    • Regularly scheduled Adopt-A-Highway days to maintain the 4 miles of roads leading to the state park.

    • Perk Up the Park - An annual work day and litter pick up at Keowee Toxaway State Park.

    • Annual Meeting - A day to thank our members for their support and keep them informed on the achievements of our organization this year.  

    • Jocassee Santa - Meet with Santa and snap a photo with your kids and/or pets with Lake Jocassee as your background!

    • Quarterly Jocassee Fireside Chats Educational Programs.
